There was never any need to have built the now bankrupt Old Sydney Town. Almost everything you ever imagined as an authentic old penal colony settlement is right here in the panoramic Western Foothills - as is a great and varied range of Australian bests.
These include best country drives, best limestone caves and incredibly talented artists and artisans.
Theres also a valley for every occasion - such as the Hartley Valley for apples, heritage, galleries and first class country fare; Kanimbla Valley for majestic views and the lovely Coxs River; Lithgow Valley for Australias amazing industrial heritage; and the glorious valley of Lake Lyell for water sports and fishing.
If thats not enough to lure you over the hill, then theres also one of the worlds most popular Steam Train rides at the Zig Zag Railway; the unforgettable Jenolan Caves as well as the Shakespearean town of Oberon with its rolling hills, tulip fields, daffodil fields - and in Winter - incredible snowfields.
In 1813, when Messers Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth stood at the top of Mt York and proclaimed theyd discovered enough land to feed the colony of NSW for 100 years, little did they realise just how well fed - both with quality fare and spiritual well-being - todays visitors would be as they tour the Wonderlands Western Foothills.
